Tron did not include hair, soft surfaces or atmospheric effects - it was approximating a 1980’s vector based graphical world. Kevin Flynn apparently disappeared 20 years ago ~1990. Examples of computer graphics at that time were Super Mario Brothers 3 and Final Fantasy 1. Now I’m not saying that Tron 2 should be all 32 bit, but the movie looks like “generic futuristic Blade Runner inspired Asian cyberpunk” instead of “we’re in a computer” like Tron was. What I’m saying is that they could have evolved their original concept instead of giving us a retread of Ghost in the Shell or Minority Report. Nobody took the time or had the balls to say, “Let’s do something really original and interesting” and opted for what basically looks like generic futurism with some glowy bits here and there.
Kevin Sonnichsen, who is not down with the production design of the Tron Sequel.
